More Than a Move: Finding Serenity and Friendship with Kay

We had the absolute pleasure of helping our friend, Kay Phelan, begin a new chapter today.

Life can change so quickly. One misstep while taking a family photo led to surgery and, unexpectedly, the need to find a community where Kay could receive a little extra assistance. That meant leaving her beloved “She-Shack,” the home she has enjoyed for many years, and adjusting to a life she certainly didn’t plan for.

Today, Kay and I talked about the Serenity Prayer and how perfectly it speaks to this season of her life:

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

If there is one thing we have learned about Kay through this journey, it is that she has courage in abundance.  She is strong, fiercely independent, accomplished, tenacious and formidable. She has faced an enormous amount of change in a very short period of time, yet we haven't seen her spend one minute feeling sorry for herself. Instead, she has faced each new challenge head-on, with determination, humor and grace.

Damian and I have always believed that what we do is about so much more than packing boxes and moving belongings. Sometimes, somewhere along the way, a client becomes a friend.  Kay, you are one of those people.  You may have moved into a new home today, but you're definitely not getting rid of us! We admire you, we are cheering you on, and we will be here for you for whatever life throws your way.

Here's to new beginnings, new friendships and finding the serenity to embrace the chapters we never expected.
